Characterization of a full-length cDNA clone encoding glutamine synthetase from rubber tree latex

, : Characterization of a full-length cDNA clone encoding glutamine synthetase from rubber tree latex. Plant Physiology & Biochemistry (paris). 35(2): 85-93

A full-length cDNA clone (HbGS) encoding glutamine synthetase (GS, EC was isolated from a Lambda Zap II library of ethylene-treated Hevea brasiliensis latex. Sequence analysis of this clone revealed an open reading frame corresponding to a 356 amino acid polypeptide. The deduced amino acid sequence showed 80-96% and 76% identity respectively with cytosolic and chloroplastic GS published sequences. These homologies and the lack of N-terminal leader peptide sequence strongly suggested that this clone encodes a cytosolic glutamine synthetase. Southern blot analysis demonstrated the existence of an intron(s) and suggested that the rubber tree GS is encoded by a small multigene family. The short-term kinetics of ethylene action on gene expression revealed marked accumulation of the corresponding GS mRNA in the latex cells of ethylene-treated newly tapped trees, compared to non-treated controls. Additionally, tapping itself was shown to slightly stimulate GS gene expression.

Individual monitoring of gonad development in the European flat oyster Ostrea edulis by in vivo magnetic resonance imaging: Previous studies have shown that magnetic resonance imaging is a very appropriate non-invasive technique for quantifying the growth of somatic and gonadic tissues and sex determination in the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas. Despite a thinner go...

Rivoli gas field, Exmouth Sub-basin: Rivoli gas discovery was made in August 1989 and is located in the Exmouth Gulf, 4.5 km northeast of Bundegi-1. The well intersected a 10.5 m hydrocarbon column consisting mainly of gas but with a very thin oil leg (0.2 m). The Birdrong Sandstone...

Indications for cesarean section experience in a district general hospital: Out of 661 deliveries in a district general hospital in 3 months, 100 (15.1 per cent) were by cesarean section. Of these, 35 sections were performed for delay in the first stage, 16 for breech presentation, 9 for fetal distress and 12 were repeat...

Unknown alimentary factors influencing milk production.: The substitution of sorghum silage by lemon pulp in the rations of five cows caused an increase in the average daily milk yield from about 8 kg. to about 11 kg. and a depression in butterfat from 3.51 to 3.33 per cent. There was a partial recovery...
