Describes a technique in which concentrated aqueous suspensions of basidiospores of Cronartium fusiforme were applied in an aerosol spray to 6-week-old seedlings of Pinus taeda and P. elliottii from 21 and 15 families respectively. The spore concentrations were 150 000 spores/ml on P. taeda and 75 000 spores/ml on P. elliottii. The technique differentiated resistant seed-lots from those showing varying degrees of susceptibility, but seed-lots of intermediate resistance were not easily distinguishable.
