Four Triticum durum (2n = 28) varieties were used as sources of resistance to Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici and P. recondita in crosses with two susceptible T. aestivum (2n = 42) varieties, Steinwedel and Bobin. Eleven lines were obtained following selection for resistance and for characters showing similarities to T. aestivum. There was a high and positive correlation between morphological characters similar to T. aestivum and a 2n = 42 chromosomes number.
