Bacteriological, biochemical and virulence studies on Salmonella dublin from abortion and enteric disease in cattle and sheep

Bacteriological, biochemical and virulence studies on Salmonella dublin from abortion and enteric disease in cattle and sheep

Veterinary Record 90(9): 236-240

Of 410 strains tested 48.6% were resistant to both streptomycin and sulphonamides, but no strain was resistant to any of the other antibiotics tested; 96% of strains were unable to synthesize nicotinic acid, 21% of strains were anaerogenic, and 34% were sensitive to the bacteriophage P22. The strains were classified into seven groups based on fermentation reactions. All rough strains, including the vaccine strain HWS 51, were contained in the same group.
