Brucellosis in sheep and goats in Cyprus

A survey, carried out in 1972, to determine the extent of Brucella melitensis infection, confirmed its presence in 42 flocks in widely scattered villages. The disease was diagnosed in cows in 3 herds and the organism isolated from milk and placentas. A survey using the CF test was made on 10000 sheep and goats; fixation at 1/40 was considered as positive and 1/20 suspicious. Infection in goats was about 1 in 313, and in sheep 1 in 3967.
