The optimum economic rates of P2O5 application in the light of current sugar and superphosphate prices were calculated for 5 factory groups, 5 levels of available soil P and 2 different types of management. For an average maximum yield of 52 t roots/ha on small farms and under irrigated conditions, optimum economic rates of applied P2O5 were 210, 170, 130, 70 and 20 kg/ha for very low, low medium, high and very high levels of available soil P, respectively.
