Abstract
Adult wethers were fed for 8 months on a semisynthetic diet with urea as the main source of N. Rumen contents were taken at different times before and after feeding. The concentration of protein N in rumen fluid rose immediately after eating; total N and ammonia N also rose. Urea in the diet did not significantly influence digestibility of feed components and N utilisation. Bodyweight of the wethers was unchanged throughout the trial.
