Characteristics of the third generation of spring-wheat mutants induced by chemical mutagens

On the average, 68.4% of changes caused by N-nitroso-N-methylurea, N-nitroso-N-ethylurea and 1,4-bisdiazoacetylbutane in the M2 were inherited in the M3. Erectoid and fusiform ears, awns, ear pubescence, changed colour, thickness of wax and certain glume characters showed complete transmission, whereas earliness, resistance to fungal diseases and lodging, improved yield, large ears and dense ears were inherited to the extent of 60-70%.
