The text is given of papers discussed at a meeting held in the German Federal Republic in November 1970. Part I contains 9 papers on field systems, common fields and settlement systems in the Himalaya of India and Nepal, in the Hindukush of Afghanistan, and in the Elburz of Iran. Part II consists of 8 papers on rice cultivation in highland areas of India, Nepal, Thailand, China and West Pakistan.
