Comparative efficacy and toxicity of pyrantel pamoate and piperazine citrate in paediatric ascariasis

Thirty children with Ascaris ova in the stools were divided into 3 equal groups; the first and 2nd groups were given a single dose of pyrantel embonate at 10 and 20 mg/kg body-weight, respectively, and the 3rd was given piperazine citrate at 120 mg/kg. E.p.g. decreased daily after treatment until on day 6 all children treated with pyrantel and 9 treated with piperazine were cleared. The average number of worms expelled was 7.4.
