34 morphological features and 3 chemical constituents were examined and compared in 2 diploid and 2 tetraploid L. perenne of Dutch origin. All features relating to plant, ear and seed size were of the order of 15-34% greater in tetraploids than in diploids. The greater stomatal size and the larger pollen grains of the tetraploids can also serve a useful basis for screening.
