Comparative histological study of the effect of some parasitic protozoa on the gills of fish.

This is a painstaking histological study of the gill lesions in indigenous infections of farmed freshwater fish, aged 1 to 2 years, with the parasitic protozoa, Chilodonella cyprini, Urceolariidae, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis and Myxobolus pavlovskii. Features of tissue degeneration and morphology of the parasites were noted and are illustrated. L. concludes that the most pathogenic parasite for fishes of different species and ages is I. multifiliis.
