Comparative immunochemistry of phytochrome

The preparation of phytochrome from oats Garry and Newton, rye, barley and peas by 3 chromatographic steps was described. Double-diffusion immunological assay suggested that all except pea phytochrome were similar and a micro complement fixation assay showed the 2 oat phytochromes to be identical, reduced activity with rye and barley phytochrome and no activity with pea phytochrome. The preparations were homogeneous by immunoelectrophoresis.
