Comparison of the fattening performances of Large White, Belgian Landrace and crossbred pigs

Female and castrated male Large Whites (LW), Belgian Landraces (BL) and crosses between the 2 breeds were offered a single daily feed between live weights of 20 and 95 kg. The av. daily food intake of the females was 10% lower than that of the castrated males. The BLs consumed 5% less feed and the crossbreds 5% more feed than the LWs. Compared with the LWs, 90 kg live weight was reached 7 days later by the BLs and 16 days earlier by the crossbreds.
