Abstract
Fine-fleeced sheep in 3 groups were stall-fed on a normal diet of a mixture of maize meal 50%, barley meal 36, sunflower cake 12 and minerals 2% with lucerne hay and maize silage or fresh lucerne; a complete pelleted feed of milled whole mature maize plants 70, lucerne meal 20, sunflower cake 8 and minerals 2% with silage or green lucerne; or the complete pelleted feed throughout. Trials were in 2 periods. Milk yields corrected to 6.5% fat were in the fist period 87.53, 88.07 and 87.11 litres and in the second 97.06, 99.25 and 107.06 litres. Protein contents were 6.96, 7.16 and 7.15% and 7.41, 7.44 and 7.57%. Yields of wool were 7.1, 7.3 and 7.4 kg and 6.4, 6.4 and 6.7 kg. There were multiple births in all groups.
