Concentrations of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and chloride in cerebrospinal fluid and their relation to the serum concentrations

Concentrations of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and chloride in cerebrospinal fluid and their relation to the serum concentrations

Zeitschrift fur Klinische Chemie und Klinische Biochemie 10(10): 462-466

Normal values for Na, K, Ca, Mg and Cl were obtained from 102 samples of cerobrospinal fluid from patients in a mental hospital who had no serum electrolyte abnormalities or disorder of the intervertebral discs and were not receiving electrolyte therapy. Normal values were based on the 96th percentile limit and were: Na 127.5 to 150.5; K 2.60 to 3.15; Ca 1.10 to 1.25; Mg 0.65 to 1.22; Cl- 119 to 127 mmole/litre. The same elements were estimated in simultaneously drawn serum samples.
