Cyclic changes in the uterine tissue content of F-prostaglandins and the role of prostaglandins in ovulation in mice

From the results it was concluded that: (1) there is a pre-ovulatory rise in PGF level, the significance of which is not clear, (2) oestrogen treatment enhances the rate of PGF production more effectively than progesterone treatment, (3) both the E and F series of PGs are probably involved in the process of ovulation, (4) treatment with indomethacin at 19.30 h on the day of pro-oestrus (after the pre-ovulatory LH peak) results in a max. blockade of ovulation, and (5) indomethacin probably exerts its influence by blocking PG synthesis and by interfering with LH action at the ovarian level.
