Abstract
The number of meiotic abnormalities in the PMCs fell in each successive generation of back crosses, until almost complete normality was reached in the BC9 owing to the restoration of the N. tabacum genome. However, the sterility of the pollen remained unchanged; in all generations the pollen died after the tetrad stage. It is concluded that the genes of N. tabacum cannot express their information for normal development of the male reproductive organs in the cytoplasm of N. debreyi.
