Diallel-cross analysis for combining ability in diploid cotton (Gossypium herbaceum L.)

Six inbred lines and seven characters were involved in this study. Variance for general combining ability exceeded variance for specific combining ability in five characters: yield, boll number, seeds per boll, ginning outturn and seed index. The lines Jayadhar and 7027 were the best general combiners for all characters except ginning outturn. The predominant genetic components for boll weight and lint index were apparently nonadditive.
