In 2 metabolism trials with groups of 5 weaned pigs diets had cane sugar or yam (Dioscorea alata) and 0.5% Cr2O3. The basal ration was 500 g of a basal diet with 39% protein and piglets got 250 or 400 g of sugar or yam. The apparent digestibility of sugar was 104% with gross energy (GE) 4.037 kcal/g. Digestible energy (DE) was 3.899 kcal/g, 96.6% of GE. Calculated metabolizable energy was 3.692 kcal/g.
