The phylogenetic approach to the problem of plants' life duration. makes it possible to define four levels of the organization of a plant individual (cell, colony, an organism in a true sense, and a clone). At the transition to every successive level the duration of life (the maximum one) increases by one order. The hypermorphosis of longevity of some. trees is well accounted for by the general theory of hypermorphosis in populations worked out by I. I. Shmalhausen. The main concepts of the theory of somatic evolution are also considered in the aspect of life duration.
