Ecological studies on rice green leaf hoppers in Taiwan (I)

The species of Nephotettix that occur on rice in Taiwan are N. cincticeps Uhl., N. nigropictus (Stal) (apicalis apicalis auct.) and N. virescens (Dist.) (impicticeps Ishihara). In the field, there is no diapause and there are eight generations a year. Details are given of the duration of the various stages during rearing in the laboratory. Light-trap catches from 1958 to 1967 showed considerable variations between the years in the abundance of the leafhoppers.
