Effect of age and season of calving on the milk yield of Polish Red-and-White Lowland cows

Analyses of 19 394 lactations revealed that milk yield was 8.1% higher in lactations starting in Dec.-Jan. than in lactations starting in June-July. Mean age at 1st calving was 29.8 mth. Milk yield tended to increase with increasing age at calving. At ages of <23 mth, yield was 484 kg less than the herd average, whereas at ages of >72 mth it was 392 kg more than the herd average. Corresponding deviations for fat yield were -17.5 and 12 kg.
