Effect of age of bull, service frequency and nutrition on the level of fructose in bull semen

It was found that the concentration of fructose in bull semen increased with the age of the bull (to 48 mth) and decreased with the frequency of semen collection (2 ejaculates every 3 or 4 days v 2 every 60 days). Observations on 8 sets of twin bulls (1 experimental twin, 1 control) showed that, except in 1 case, underfeeding tended to reduce the fructose concentration in the semen compared with that in the normally fed controls.
