Effect of defoliation caused by feeding of Lymantria monacha on the increment of Norway Spruce stands

Effect of defoliation caused by feeding of Lymantria monacha on the increment of Norway Spruce stands

Prace Vyzkumneho Ustavu Lesniho Hospodarstvi a Myslivosti 44: 5-38

Increment losses following a mass outbreak in S. Moravia in 1966-1968 were assessed on the basis of 556 increment cores taken from trees on 9 sample plots, using the computerized methods of annual-ring analysis developed earlier for determining the effects of fume damage Increment losses were directly proportional to % defoliation, increased with increasing age for the same % defoliation, and were dependent upon tree class, being highest for suppressed trees.
