In trials with 4 rice cultivars in 3 seasons, dibbling the sprouted seed in rows 15 cm apart in puddled soil gave paddy yields similar to those obtained by transplanting in the rainy season; in the winter season it gave higher yields than other treatments (broadcasting sprouted seed and transplanting 30-day-old seedlings either in rows or at random) and accelerated maturation by 1 week.
