In pot trials, salts (NaCl and Na2SO4) were added to soil at 0.4, 0.7 and 1% of soil dry weight. Daily growth of cotton stems was reduced, especially at high salinity and the dry weight of leaves and stems was reduced by all treatments. Flowering was delayed about 4.5 and 3.1 days by 1 and 0.4%, respectively, and date of 1st boll opening was delayed 2.1-3.2 days by 0.7 and 1% salinity. Yields were reduced 50 and 64% by 0.4 and 1% salinity, respectively, and fibre quality was reduced.
