Effect of ethephon on fresh-pack and brined cucumbers

Fruits of plants of one gynoecious and 2 monoecious cvs treated at the 2- to 3-leaf stage with 0 or 240 p.p.m. ethephon were harvested at 3 weekly intervals and processed as either fresh-pack pickles or brine stock. There were differences in shape and degree of seed development attributable to the ethephon treatment, but there were no differences in texture, flavour, external or internal colour, firmness or internal defects.
