Effect of fertilizing and reinforcing tall grassveld on a duplex soil in Natal

Effect of fertilizing and reinforcing tall grassveld on a duplex soil in Natal

Proceedings of the Grassland Society of Southern Africa 8: 61-63

In a trial at De Hoek Research Station in 1969-72, veld dominated by Hyparrhenia spp. was overplanted with either (a) Cynodon nlemfuensis or (b) C. dactylon and was given 0, 125, 250, 375 or 500 kg N + 50 kg P + 200 kg K/ha annually. DM yields of the Hyparrhenia spp. increased with increase in rate of applied N up to 375 kg/ha; the Cynodon spp. made little contribution to DM yields at first, but their contribution gradually increased in the 2nd season on the high-N plots.
