Effect of method of rearing on carcass quality of lambs. Effect of artificial rearing and of completely pelleted diets on subcutaneous fat deposits

Effect of method of rearing on carcass quality of lambs. Effect of artificial rearing and of completely pelleted diets on subcutaneous fat deposits

Annales de Zootechnie 22(3): 279-293

Two groups of 13 lambs were suckled to 8 weeks and 2 groups had milk substitute with 23% tallow and 25% crude protein. From 8 weeks to 4 months one group from each set had long hay and concentrate and the others had a complete pelleted feed which supplied the same intake of DM and had the same proportion of hay as for the lambs given the separate feeds. Up to 8 weeks the suckled lambs grew faster. After 8 weeks the pelleted diet gave greater growth.
