Effect of morphactin on indol-3yl-acetic acid transport, growth, and geotropic response in cereal coleoptiles

The effect of the morphactin 2-chloro-9-hydroxyfluorene-9-carboxylic acid methyl ester (CFM) on growth, geotropic curvature and transport and metabolism of 5-3H-IAA was examined in coleoptile sections on maize Burpee Snowcross and oats Svalof Victory 1. There was close correlation between the inhibition of the geotropic response and the inhibition of auxin transport. At concentrations in excess of 10-7M, CFM inhibited the growth of oat coleoptile sections in the presence and absence of IAA.
