Effect of nitrogen fertilizers on storage and culinary quality of tubers of potatoes grown on grey forest clay loam soil

The keeping quality of potato tubers was not affected by the application of 60 kg N/ha as ammonium nitrate or ammonium sulphate to the crop, compared with the unfertilized controls, but was decreased with N applied as liquid ammonia. Application of up to 120 kg N/ha in addition to a basal dressing of 60 kg P2O5 + 90 kg K2O/ha increased the keeping quality of tubers, but higher rates of N decreased it. Application of P alone also increased keeping quality.
