In trials in 1969-71, application of 60 kg N/ha to white clover/smooth-stalked meadowgrass red clover/smooth-stalked meadowgrass and white clover/meadow fescue mixtures increased average hay yields by 21, 12 and 60%, respectively, compared with respective yields of 14.09, 18.89 and 11.38 t/ha on plots given no N.
