Effect of nitrogen, spacing and clipping of seedling on the yield of onion (Allium cepa L.)

The treatments consisted of 3 N levels (70, 90 and 110 kg/ha), 3 spacings (10X30, 20X30 and 30X30 cm) and clipping the seedlings when transplanting. The N was applied as (NH4)2SO4 in split applications; basal P and K were also supplied. The used was Patna Red. N at 90 kg/ha gave the best results in terms of yield and bulb size; 10X30 cm spacing gave the highest yield/ha although wider spacing gave bigger and heavier bulbs.
