Pesquisa Agropecuaria Brasileira, Zootecnia 8(2): 39-42

Analysis of data on 1312 Holstein-Friesian X (zebu X Guernsey) calves, born in 1959-1970 in the state of Rio de Janeiro in Dec.-Feb. (group 1), Mar.-May (group 2), June-Aug. (group 3) and Sep.-Nov. (group 4), revealed that calves born in the dry season (Mar.-Aug.) had a significantly higher rate of survival than those born during the rainy season (Sep.-Feb.).
