Effect of seed vigor on field performance and yield of grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench)

Hybrid grain sorghum seeds were aged for 0, 3, 5, 7 or 11 days at 42 deg C and 100% r.h. In a laboratory experiment, percentage germination decreased only in seed aged for 5-11 days. Aging progressively reduced shoot and root length in 4-day old seedlings, with shoot length a sensitive indicator of initial deterioration.
