Abstract
Lucerne with 76 to 80% moisture was ensiled with and without additives. Na2S2O5, 0.5%, inhibited microorganisms but not completely and heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria were more strongly suppressed. Kofasil, 0.4%, suppressed undesirable microorganisms but hardly affected lactic acid bacteria. Silage quality was good and losses were comparatively small with additives; there was no essential difference between the additives.
