In field experiments during two rabi seasons Lerma Rojo and Bijaga Yellow were grown on a black clay loam soil (pH 7.6) and fertilized with 40 kg N/ha as (NH4)2SO4, urea and ammonium sulphate nitrate applied 15 days before sowing, at sowing, half before and half at sowing or one third before sowing, one third at sowing and one third as a urea foliar spray at heading.
