Abstract
Soviet Merino (SM) ewes were inseminated with semen from Oxford Down, Clun Forest or SM rams. For progeny of the 3 groups resp., birth weight averaged 4.9, 4.3 and 4.3 kg for males and 4.8, 3.9 and 3.9 kg for females , body weight at 10 mth of age 50.3, 39.9 and 36.5 kg for wethers and 43.4, 37.0 and 34.5 kg for females . The av. daily gain of wethers to 9-10 mth of age was 137, 113 and 108 g resp., and dressing percentage 47.4, 44.5 and 41.6. The clean-wool yield averaged 2.04, 1.9 and 1.74 resp.
