Seedlings of 2 tomato cvs planted in late July were cooled by (1) a horizontal pad and fan system, or (2) a standard overhead and side vent system. The crop was picked between 1 October and 29 November. Up to 10 September the day temperatures were very high; those in the pad-cooled plots were considerably lower than in ventilated plots, but the differences in night temperatures between (1) and (2) were far less.
