Fat content of the ambrosia beetle, Trypodendron lineatum (Oliv.) during attack and brood production

Fat content of the ambrosia beetle, Trypodendron lineatum (Oliv.) during attack and brood production

Journal of the Entomological Society of British Columbia 66: 29-31

Studies in British Columbia showed that after hibernation adults of Trypodendron lineatum (Ol.) flew to attractive host material (consisting in this case of logs of Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) felled a few months earlier), where they arrived with about half the fat content they had at the start of hibernation. Analyses of beetles during attack and brood production showed that in the case of the males the fat content increased rapidly after about five days from the start of the attack.
