While select was not decomposed by sterilized soil at 60% moisture capacity incubated at 30 deg C, in unsterilized soil it had a half-life of <2 days. T.l.c. of unsterilized soil treated with 14C-labelled material at 500 ppm. and incubated for 5 days showed 9 or 10 metabolites which included 2-amino-4-methyl-5-chlorothiazole and 3 dechlorinated compounds. Further degradation proceeded by way of thiourea.
