Feed conversion efficiency in high liveweight gain and low liveweight gain Friesian bulls

Feed conversion efficiency in high liveweight gain and low liveweight gain Friesian bulls

Proceedings of the New Zealand Society of Animal Production 33: 206-207

Nine Friesian bulls which had gained 1.36 kg daily during the previous 6 months, and 9 which had gained 0.93 kg, to average liveweights 535 and 486 kg at ages between 19 and 24 months, were given grass to appetite for 28 days. Average daily gains of the respective categories were then 0.27 and 0.40 kg. Daily intakes of DM were 10.4 and 10.0 kg. For the next 56 days 3 bulls of each category were fed to gain little weight, 3 to gain 0.5 kg and 3 to gain 0.1 kg daily.
