Fixed and floating pressure bars in the peeling of veneer

Fixed and floating pressure bars in the peeling of veneer

Paperi ja Puu 56(6): 533-541

Bolts of Birch and Spruce were peeled with a fixed or with a floating pressure bar and the quality of the veneers was compared for thickness variation, tensile strength, depth of checks, and surface roughness. For Birch, a fixed pressure bar gave better tensile strength, less checking and less roughness but poorer thickness tolerances.
