Fundamental studies on mating in forest trees (VII). The mechanism of flowering and pollination and the determination of favourable time for controlled pollination in Chamaecyparis obtusa

Describes a study on similar lines to that on flowering and pollination in Cryptomeria japonica (cf. preceding abstracts), covering the duration and seasonal timing, both under natural conditions and when the female flowers are bagged, of seven stages of flowering that are distinguished. In the trees studied, female flowers began to open in late March or early April and flowering lasted for ca. 1 month. Male flowers began to open ca. 10 days after female flowers.
