Pigs of both sexes, bodyweight 88 to 92 kg, were obtained from 3 breeding lines, comprising a high index (HP) line selected for high weight gain and low backfat thickness, a low index (LP) line of opposite characteristics, and a control line (CL) maintained without deliberate selection. After slaughter, blood samples were collected for somatomedin estimation.
