Germination of sesame seed was not affected by NaCl solution of -6 bars osmotic potential, but higher potentials progressively inhibited germination until it was only 50% with -12 bars osmotic potential. In solution-culture experiments, the pod DM yield was reduced from 45.8 g/2 plants without NaCl to 6.4 g with 44 meq NaCl/l (-2.8 atmospheres potential).
