Abstract
In 1964-6, lucerne cut 2 times/year for seed was (a) open-pollinated, (b) cross pollinated or (c) self-pollinated. The number of pods set/100 flowers was 18.8, 35.2 and 6.8 and the number of seeds/pod was 1.9, 2.0 and 1.2 with (a), (b) and (c), respectively. Seed germination and seedling vigour were higher in seeds from (a) and (b) than from (c); there was little difference between seeds from (a) and (b).
