Incidence of shrinkage and collapse during drying of some commercial timbers in Chile

Incidence of shrinkage and collapse during drying of some commercial timbers in Chile

Informe Tecnico, Instituto Forestal, Chile (36): 145-155

Tabulates data on basic density, density before and after reconditioning, and tangential and radial shrinkage from green to 12% m.c. (before and after reconditioning), for eight commercial timbers: Pinus radiata, Laurelia philippiana, Eucalyptus Nothofagus dombeyi, N. obliqua, Aextoxicon punctatum, Weinmannia trichosperma, and Eucryphia cordifolia. All species except P. radiata exhibited considerable shrinkage, which in most species was more than twice as great (in %) tangentially as radially.
