Incorporation of heifer testing in herd replacement systems in industrialized dairy farming

Comparison of 3 types of herd replacement, using a model based on data collected over 3 yr from 5 industrialized dairy farms in the German Democratic Republic, showed that replacement with milk-recorded heifers was economically superior to replacement with untested heifers in calf.
